Writing Prompts: How I Wrote on My Family's Sabbatical Month

My kids in Costa Rica

My kids in Costa Rica

Dear Reader

As you can see there's a six week gap between today and my last entry.  My family has been on a month-long sabbatical in Costa Rica.  Three days ago we arrived in London where we'll spend the summer.

While away I did write though in a less directed and more dreamy way.  I carried a notebook titled "300 writing prompts" that was brilliant as it had one or two sentences on each page to get you started.  The space left for the entry was short enough I could pick it up in-between other things.  Plus the fact the prompts were embedded in a notebook meant I didn't have to carry around a book and a notebook as well.  All of that meant most days I did write.  And it also meant that I wrote in a different way.  Travelling is a great opportunity to think differently but it can be hard to get out of our own creative ruts.   The writing prompts book helped me do imaginatively what I was already embodying while travelling - looking at things from a different angle.
